But I should feel bad, this is really irresponsible. We actually genuinely assumed that KC registered meant that the tests have been done.
Have just checked and there are no tests results showing for sire or dam.
I should start practising what I preach!

Nobody means you to feel like that, but it goes to show how folk can be taken in and assume things are done right, when in fact perhaps they havent. A reputable breeder would of asked many many questions and drummed into you the problems that Springer owners may face, you have seen some of it already, its not easy but an experienced breeder would of made sure you were aware of what they are like. They would also of pointed out health tests etc...

I actually think you will make an excellent dog owner!!! and am doing so already!

We always knew what the ESS would be like, we researched the breed thoroughly. That's not the issue. We're handling him fine because we were prepared (in fact it's nowhere near as bad as we thought it would be).

The issue is that we didn't make sure the tests were done and just assumed they had been. That is wrong.

I know about Springers and hip dysplasia and I know all about spaniels and their eyes and yet I didn't think to go into it in more detail with the breeder!

How soon can I get him tested for all of these? BVA/HD etc and what does it mean when it shows DNA on his certificate? What does this prove/show?

I can't see it now but I've definitely seen it.

His pedigree certificate is just the 5 gen one. What does IKC mean? Is that an international KC?

Wish I'd known all of this before.

Just looked on his reg docs. It shows:

KC/BVA Schemes

DNA Tests

- Presumably because there is nothing on there that means neither parents were tested? It is abit rubbish that people are allowed to breed and advertise their dogs as KC registered without the tests being mandatory.

Anyway, I better get to bed and put my little sleeping baby in his Den. Bless him, I hope I haven't done something stupid that will cause him harm!

Night all x
