Totally agree with you both, although Bev, these days I tend to get more sense out of the dogs

I certainly find dogs much easier to be around, but I think that's my problem...

I was given a key fob with words written on it-

"The more people I meet the more I like my dog"

It made me smile as in some cases the words ring true.

I live alone with my dog so obviously enjoy her company and, obviously spend more time with her than with any 'people'.

However, I love good company and the company of my own kids. But there are a few people I would prefer not to spend time with and would prefer the company of my dog!

Last year I spent my birthday alone. A neighbour had suggested we go out and have a bite together. My kids were dismayed that I didn't want to go (they are usually around on my birthday). I did explain to them that I consider her to be rather dense and irritating and a quite nasty gossip and that, although I can happily 'pass the time of day' with her when I see her, it would absolutely ruin my birthday to spend it in her company and that I'd be much happier spending it curled up with a book or a DVD and my dog!

I've always preferred the company of animals to people.

I'd happily be a mad dog/animal woman, living alone with a bunch of animals and rarely seeing people!

Akitagirl I hope you manage to sort things out with your parents but having been through a similar thing with my mum.....I totally understand why our dogs are so very special to us in times of adversity. I never consider my dogs to be a pain in the backside unlike members of my family !!!!!! My dogs arent half as demanding and have a perfect knack for making me smile just looking at them!

I find humans soooo exhausting these days ...
.. being careful about what one says so as not to offend,
..trying to look reasonable so that people don't think you have 'let yourself go' or worse still are becoming senile

Dogs don't make these demands or judgements, just give them your time and affection and they don't give a dam about the rest..
