What in your opinion do dogs prefer to do?

I have decided I want to do something with Zeita. Be it showing (which she has potential for), agility( when she is old enough) or obedience. i want to do these at a competitive level and hobby too

Its just I would like your opinions as to which you think your dogs prefer and why. She is so far however quite quick at learning her obedience, loves doing little low impact activities and has no problems being gone over by a judge.

I obviously want her to get as much out if what ever we do as she can, as I have never done any I have no idea

thanks in advance

Mel xx

They are all very different even within breeds so I couldn't say. My advice would be to give the ones you prefer a shot and see if she enjoys it too, if not try something else!

Fudge gets the most enjoyment from the agility. Having watching the vids of us together ,the grin on her face after a round and the focus she has on me shows how much she enjoys the partnership element of this activity.

Hmmmmm have been asking myself this about the Cosmic one so shall watch this with interest...I have pretty much decided that at the moment we'll concentrate on trying to ensure he's well socialised and ok in most situations with good basic obedience...and then see what he enjoys the most at a later date. I'm guessing competitive obedience might be out though!!!!!

Give everything your intrested in a shot and see which one/s you both like. That's what I'm doing/going to do with Kodi.

I have only shown him so far, which he enjoys as he gets to meet lots of new people and give people kisses which he loves.

I'm also going to give competing in Obedience a go once we have the required stuff down to a tee, as Kodi is quick at learning his stuff to and seems to enjoy it when we practise.

And once he's old enough(october atleast) I'm going to try agility aswell, which I'm pretty sure he will enjoy this aswell.

I'd never done any of these things or planned to do before we got Kodi. But so far the showing has been fun and practising in the house/garden etc for obedience has been fun as he's such a quick learner and eager to do it And I'm sure the agility will be the same once we start.

So I would say just try a little of everything and do the ones you both like.

hmm its a difficult one as different dogs prefer different things -

felix loves his obedience but also loves agility which he is now able to start doing again (very slowly)...

Indy isnt so keen on obedience but loves the agility we've done so far (not much as shes only young)...

Scot, well he loves everything!!!

they all love doing little bits of clicker as well xx

My Malamute girl loves obedience more than shows or agility, although she ADORES agility too

My boy likes shows because he gets fed but he loves agility too

My collie likes flyball best

My Lab likes being asleep more than most activities

Kaiy loves working and Seku loves showing and everything about it, so I think it's just down to their own personalities.

It is definitely down to the individual dog.

Kip if I'd got him when he was younger, I'm sure would have loved flyball, but he never liked learning tricks.

Hoki loves her toys, likes training and tricks and also really loves 'find it' games - if she had been up to the agility aspects, I bet she would have loved working trials.

Stumpy might well get into toys when she's worked out what they're for, but at the moment I can't imagine her being as in to them as Hoki & Kip, so I'm hoping she will enjoy agility.

I would say its each to their own as they are all different, even within breed. With mine though I dont do anything, I think Jake would like agility and if younger and less nervey I would have tried it.
