Help - specialist horse information required!

Hi all

Bit of an odd request really!

I'm after some information about a specific breed of horse (and if possible lineage/champions in that breed).

It's to do with a planning application we're trying to get knocked on the head, so am trying to do as much research as possible.

Please note, we're not contesting it because we don't like horses; I just have an objection to a floodlit stables and sand paddock at the bottom of our garden!

Are there breed clubs for specific breeds of horses? I need accurate, reliable information, which is why I generally haven't googled it! I honestly wouldn't know where to look!

Cheers!

Yes just like dogs, horses have their own breed clubs.

But I dont understand the connection to "breed" and "planning permission" what has the breed of the horse got to do with you objecting to them putting lights up around their menage??

You are within your rights to object to lights, if it is intrusive. Have they applied for planning permission, your local planning office should have it .

Our neighbours have had their planning permission overturned on grounds of sustainability (e.g. large stables being built, not enough land to sustain that many horses) but have contested it with a very technical sheet about the fact that their breed of horse doesn't need turning out and will happily stay in the stable a lot of the time.

I'm generally trying to find out whether this is true of the particular breed, or whether they are just "getting technical" with the council in the hope that the permission will be granted.

The whole development will be intrusive, if built, and will take away our open countryside views, all our privacy and will devalue our house.

The menage will be situated at the bottom of our garden, meaning that anyone using it will be able to see into our kitchen, dining room, master bedroom, patio, BBQ area, greenhouse, veg patch and general garden.

Hence, we'd really rather not have the development go ahead...

What breed of horse is it, no breed of horse will do well with never being turned out.....the only horses that live a lifetime in stables are generally race horse,( and the stress shows on them) some show horses may spend the season not being turned out, but it sems to be they are just trying a different tactic to gain planning permission.

It does not matter what breed it is, they will have to have lights in stables on the yard, whether they have donkeys or race horses, so using a breed as an excuse , does not add up.

If you are not happy with where they are going to build, you are within your rights to keep objecting, could they not move the memage so it does not block your view...although I have never known a menage to block a view, as they are open and the fencing is only around 4ft....the flood lights are a different matter, they can light up a football pitch, sometimes they have restrictions put on them, they must be turned off by 8/9 pm!!!!!!!

I think you just need to stay imformed, and block they application, on the grounds it has already been turn down, not enough space, obstructive to you.

Previous thread on the planning permission issue (inc pics)
http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?t=61398

My best mate has 3 horses which are turned out most of the time in summer (inc at night) and as much of the time as possible in winter (except at night)

She does this so they are not cooped up in the stable all the time and so feed costs are reduced in summer.

That's why I was surprised re this sheet that basically said that the horses don't need turn out and either stay in the stable or the menage most of the time.

Many many people dont turn horses out all day or night, myself included, our horses where compition horses, they needed to keep fitness, and not get stufffed up on grass.....huntere/show/ any form of compition horse will only spend a few hrs aday in the field, (for well being)

Sometimes it is because the owner has not enough grass, or needs to save the grassf or winter. others, if you are on a budget keep their horses out as much as possible, 24hrs, only bring in to ride ot stable at night, keeping the cost of feeding down (costs less to keep them on grass) .

But it really does not matter how you keep them, if you have a yard you need lights, in the stables , (for winter nights when doing up) in the menage (for riding) but lights will only be used in the winter months (dark after 4pm) through summer, and daytime, no lighting is needed.

So it still does not stack up , the excuse they need more lighting because they stable their horses all the time

I dont think you can object to loosing a view, but the light from the manage /stables if intrussive , is something you can object to.

Have you a picture of the horses, I am intrigued to see which breed needs to have "the lights on" all the time.

No, no pic

They are warmbloods, German I think. She jumps out and does dressage on them, and apparantly they are from international champion stallion lines which is why they want to get one in foal.

Ah, I see re the being out on grass. Next door say their horses are competition horses, so that would explain the not needing grass/turn out then.

They'll have 2 full grown warmbloods on less than 1.5 acres of grass if the development goes ahead.
