How unprofessional!!! I would most definitely be changing vets!

Vet came out earlier today... No fly strike wahhooooo!!! Infact it is quite clean compared to many in the area...

However, vet found some growths inside his sheath that she thinks she is cancerous... it is probably the cause of the irritation in his sheath, and may be the cause of the weight loss, and lack of gaining weight recently- well he is a native after all who usually lives off fresh air!

Not sure whats worse right now. Head is a mess.

Taken bloods and a swab of some sort away for analysis, should back within the next week. She said if they grow anymore within the next 4-6months, then he may need an operation.

However he is 21 now, and has RAO (breathing disorder). The operation is about £1000 - and I don't have that kind of money right now (after car needs new cam belt, front tyres and brakes, plus mot totalling over £500)

Fingers crossed that the tests come back to show it isn't cancer, but something easily treatable Thinking of you.

If it isn't cancerous, I am wondering if it is fair to put him through an operation at his age, and with his breathing difficulties...

Seems like a distant memory Show jumping him only a few months ago... In almost every other aspect he is himself, but weight/muscle is being very very very slow to be put back on. Vet was impressed as he does look good considering things.

I will have had him 8 years next month.

I`m sorry to hear this. Whatever happens, he has had 8 years free of fear and abuse.
Try not to worry about the operation - I raised £1000 for an operation for an old foster girl with boot sales etc. It`s do-able.
It`s his quality of life that`s important. And right now he is safe and loved.

No easy decisions by the sound of it.

I agree with C&D though, that his quality of life is what is most important. If you feel an operation would not be fair on him then what other options are open to you? Would it be acceptable for him to carry on as he is, or is his quality of life being compromised?

So sorry that things are looking so bleak at the moment
