That's me blubbing as well

Well done you for showing him love and giving him a bit of normality out of the kennels. What a gorgeous face he has. You are understandably upset. (((hugs)))

Run free Bertie.

Thank you all for your kind words. Today was a very strange day walking in to work and not hearing his bark or having to move him to his special day room out of the way of the public. I kept catching myself thinking I need to walk him or do his toilet break.

I left the door to his day room open so that I would not be caught off guard thinking he was behind it. It is the little things that catch me out. Scooby can now shake in the staff room without the sound of his tags jangling causing Bertie to bark, I no longer have to unlock a door to get to the files, his kennel window which was always plastered in photo's of him is now bare and his room is all packed away right down to the sofas being hoovered. Soon another dog will move in but I can't help but wonder how long it will continue to be thought of as Bertie's room.

His harness and lead (both special red to make him stand out to new volunteers) have been through the wash but I can't bring myself to use them on another. Everything just seems so empty and quiet without him.

It's awful that dogs live and die in kennels but what you did was wonderful and must have improved his life no end. If a dog has to live in kennels, it's good to know there are people like you around for them.
