Singing to your dog

I have probably raised this before, but do you sing to your dog? I do not mean just talk, but sing - sometimes with the correct words and sometimes with made up words to suit the situation?

I "sing" to Pereg - and I think she enjoys it as she will sit with her head on my knees and look and listen - obviously she has no idea of what I sing...

...or does she?

I totally agree.

I sing to little Molly when I bath her. We have a "bish bash bosh" song that I sing to her. (Accompanied by a stupid silly voice). and the "Wittle Dirl" Song.

So we must have the same thinking Malka?

My OH does! He has a 'special' song he sings in the car to the dogs......To the tune from Wizard of Oz.

We're off to see the squirrels
They wonderful squirrels of Clyne.....

I won't repeat it all but the dogs love it.

I sang once to my old GWP. We were grouse counting on a military range (where we used to live). We were in the firing area although, it was clear and we could go on. However, they were firing the BIG guns from one end of the range to the other so they were going over me.

We would hear a MASSIVE BANG, then a wooooooooosh and then an explosion. This pretty much unnerved Harve (and me) so I decided to sing to him lol. It actually worked and we were able to carry on with the count! I was just VERY pleased we were in the middle of nowhere and no one was likely to hear me! lol

Sometimes Pereg comes up to me, puts her head on my lap and I twiddle her ears and go "dompy dompy dompy dompy dompy dompy domp" [to the music of Prokofiev Romeo and Juliet], but the current one is Streisand and Donna Summer "No More Tears" - because "it's raining, it's pouring" etc - with my own words added!

Think Pereg prefers the Prokofiev though! No idea how to post YouTube links but it is this one:

All the time

Our favourite is, "Pepsi is a wepsi tiddle i poo" to the tune of "if you're happy and you know it"!
She loves it and will run off and get a toy to throw around whenever I sing it.

There are plenty more .... all just as meaningless

I delight in silence but I love my music when I need it. And it seems that Pereg is the same. I used to sing nursery rhymes to Little One, and I know I posted about that soon after I joined Dogsey, but Pereg is far more music orientated than Little One was.

I wonder if anyone ever did a study about dogs and their hearing responses to music?

Funny you should ask that Just finished singing to Milly and Freya rats.

There’s a tiny house (There's a tiny house)
By a tiny stream (By a tiny stream)
Where a lovely lass (Where a lovely lass) rat substituted for lass
Had a lovely dream (Had a lovely dream)
And her dream came true (And her dream came true)
Quite unexpectedly
In Gilly Gilly Ossenfeffer Katzenellen Bogen By The Sea
Ratz substituted for Katz

I do sing to Cava as well Brown Boy in the ring
