Could he be licking his paws (or other body part) excessively or something? sometimes my Lab will leave a rather obvious 'wet' patch if he has been licking frantically.

I had this problem when living in a damp house and also with a dog that swam a lot.
My dog had a plastic bed with a quilt in it and the moisture couldn`t escape and pooled at the bottom of the plastic bed. You could change your bed to one that is raised or one that doesn`t hold moisture.

I agree with Claire, if the basket is plastic (I'm a poet and I dont know it!) condensation may be forming from your dog's body heat.

When a dog washes 'its bits' and paws this can make the bed quite wet

Some dogs also dribble saliva when they sleep and suck the bedding .

well the bed is just a thick cousion type bed it doesnt have a plastic bed that holds it.

i think it more than likely must be saliva becuase he has been alseep on it in the front room when we are there and it has also happened and he was fast on asleep and not moving around or anything.

but thanks for the replys
