My poorly pooch, help!

Hi In the past few weeks I have been told my Jess has diabeties.
Initially she has always had skin probs ears, paws, last year she was put on steroids.
Due to the long period on steroids she became very ill, showing signs of cushings, by the time we checked her symptoms she was diabetic, she is blind now and although shes not showing symptoms of cushings she has bad painful skin probs.that bad you cant touch her.
She was put on Atopica which cleared her skin.
But can we still use it now she has diabeties?
Vets are not helpful we where told she needed to be put to sleep.shes 7 and i know dogs can lead a good life with right treatment.

I would not give up on her. Is she insured ? Can you get a referral to a specialist ? If not, at the very least get a second opinion from another vet especially one who is prepared to look at alternative therapies. Her conditions are not curable, but I am sure they can be managed with the right treatment.

Hi Thalice's mum.

No we are not insured ,but at the moment we can manage to pay for treatment.
We are looking at referal to Glasgow vet hospital, Im going back to vet to night to se if i can get an appointment in the new year.
The vets are not helpful if there is no insurance.
But we will manage ,Jess seems to be ok limping at the moment, and her back legs covered in sores, no offer of medication, see wat happens tonight.

Keep ya posted

here is a site about Atopica and info on it I found it helpful with my dog

Does your dog have cushings or being tested as far as i am aware cushings and diabetes are different diagnoses and require different treatments
If it were me I would be getting a second opinion as pts is not the only option and if the dogs quality of life is still good there is no reason you could not extend her life with the right care

Has your vet tested her for thyroid disease? Skin problems can occur with it & sometimes symptoms for thyroidism & cushings can be a bit similar. If you cant get a referral, you could try a different vet for second opinion.

Hi Guys
Jess been a lot better, put on antibiotic for her skin, although not totally cleared and still itching a bit.
I feel a lot better about things, we, my hubby and I are still struggling with her injections, something we will have to get through i guess,as far as cushings initially had symptoms but we are not sure ? defo diabetic, but no symptoms of cushings, eating normal, drinking too.
Just getting her curve right.
God is Good.
