Yet another Grand Mal seizure

And five hours later she is still driving me crazy with post-ictal behaviour. I know it is not her fault but I am not sure how much longer I can cope.

I am really sorry to hear Pereg is not good again. It must be so hard for you to see her like that and I thank god I have never seen a dog having a full blown seizure as I don't know if I could cope with it full stop. I don't think I would be strong enough.

I hope she settles for you again soon and you can get some rest. (((hugs))) to you and Pereg

OK, I have the results from her last Pb level on 28 April and it was 29.6 µg/mL as against 6 months ago when it was 25.8 [ norm being 15-40 µg/mL] which means that we can increase her Pb level if necessary. I am waiting for Ram to phone me back but in the meantime telephoned the outside specialist laboratory as Ram had not yet emailed me the last Pb level result. And I am too impatient and want to know everything like this minute so I telephoned and spoke to the head of the outside laboratory.

Right. So we have plenty of scope to increase Pereg's Phenobarbitone and luckily she has never had any side effects from it apart from the initial "I am starving, I need food" six months.

At the moment Pereg is fine B"H but as these Grand Mal seizures have started again and they are full-blown major seizures, it is obvious that her medication will have to be increased, and as neither Ram nor I want to add any other medication it will have to probably be an increase in her Phenobarbitone.

This epilepsy is just so crazy. I mean why did she go one year and 177 days seizure free and now start again with the frequency less and less now? She has no side-effects from the medication but is still nagging me for food which I will not give her as she really is not hungry - just the disease making her think she is.

And to look at her now you would never believe that just a few hours ago she was in a full blown epileptic seizure, and I honestly do not think I will be able to cope with it again.

I feel lucky that I have not had to experience this horrible disease so far, I don't think I would cope well at all .
Thinking of you both & hope you can settle her down soon with the meds x

I'm so, so very sorry Malka. I know you and I have had our differences and that we have our thoughts on each other but I know how you love Pereg and it hurts me so much to hear this.

Please hang in there, and tell Pereg to hang in there too. It's not your fault, or her fault. Things just happen. It's truly obvious you're doing everything you can for her.

Whatever you do, don't stress over this. Stay calm, and believe in the strength of your doggy Pereg, because we all know dogs are so much tougher than people.

She'll be alright... and soon, she'll go back to having only small tics or like before, be seizure free for a long time!! Believe it, hold it close to you, and it'll happen. And never give up on her... because she'd never give up on you. You BOTH are strong ladies in my eyes!

My mother lost her cat and she raised her blood pressure a LOT stressing over it and it could have caused a really serious health problem... so please, please... know that everyone is thinking of you and stay strong.

Again, I'm sorry. I know what it's like to have a sick pet... the day I lost Brownie was the worst day in my life. But if it boils down.. you'll know what to do. Hang in there and sending healing vibes to Pereg and supportive vibes to you.

Sorry - not sure why my last post ended up so small. I have just spoken with Ram and he agrees with the head of the outside laboratory where they did her Pb check. Pereg's current Pb level is still well below the maximum therapeutic level so if, if, her current seizures return more frequently, we can and will increase her Pb dosage.

But no way will we add any other AED [Antil Epileptic Drug] .

What might happen after that is something we are not thinking about right now, but the fact that the major seizures have returned i something that is, at the moment, of concern. If she has another one within the next couple of weeks then we are going to have to take stronger action.

In the meantime Da Booger is acting as normal as any nuisance dog can act!

But The Monster has definitely returned and I have to accept it. And hope that it does not affect Pereg too much.
