Tis Thursday 21st September 2023

Barry I got the date correct this time. In my defence the 9 is next to the 0 on my keyboard so maybe my fingers didn't get it right?
Anyway good morning all and hope you have a good day. Not raining at the moment. Sadly Margaret my friend didn't make it yesterday. Just as she got home at 3pm to have a cuppa after work finished and coming out to catch the bus at 4pm to come to me the heavens opened so we decided to give it a miss otherwise she would have got soaked. Oh well winter is a coming in so she will have to get galoshes and a better umbrella. I had some good news this morning. I recommended a friend to my energy company that I use and got a money reward. Have a good day all. Suns just come out.

Good afternoon brenda, Barry and all to follow.
A shame Margaret didn't make it brenda fingers crossed for next week.
I am making hay while the sun shines the washing is on the line and drying nicely.
We went on a wild goose chase this morning to get a dog stroller for Brewster as we still have to watch his walking while trying to fix the pastern issue.
Well it wasn't the right capacity so came home and found one on ebay, £25 dearer but we will make use of it and we can put it away and when he gets older and struggles a bit bring it out again.

Barry.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Good morning well afternoon now all.

Brenda the way the weather is forcast maybe Margaret will come by the ark next time. Any luck with the emails?

Barry Have a good day

Lynn Never having had a large breed dog I assume his pastern's are fixable with managment, is it an hereditary thing or just pot luck? with Staffs you sometimes cannot see it in immediate breeding but are aware of the breeding behind and can see where is comes from. But sometimes things just appear in a one off.

To all hope you are having a nice day like Lynn my washing is on the line second lot now had a pause in proceedings while it rained but straight back out and the sun shines. Should do some vacuming but have not been botherd will make an effort though once I start all good. LOL

Spoke to a friend from work via face book as she is of thisweek to wish her Happy Birthday (50 today) to find she had a phone call while away with her sister to say come home and go straight to hospital tests she had done earlier in the week show parathyroid isn't working properly and damage to right side of heart. they also suspect a cancerous tumour in parathyroid. She has just posted a message saying "hospital ward closed due to covid" poor Sharron.

Sorry to hear about your friend Kazz.

It's not something we have come across before having had 3 large dogs, 2 Bernese.
It can be hereditary and is quite common in German Shepherds.
It can also be down to teething they take the calcium they make and it all goes to the teeth, they call it going soft.
Brewster has and is still suffering worse than I have ever experienced with teething.
Most right themselves with management a breeder who has solved this before with Ascorbic acid has helped considerably. As far as I am aware her puppies have never suffered with this.
Her and her husband are ambassadors for the health of the breed and both active members and hold important roles within the Bernese GB club.

I have looked through some of his Kennel on his sires side (Ukranian) and some do look more down on the pasterns than others they are large males and seem to look better as they mature.
We will carry on with the Ascorbic acid, and the little or no exercise till we see a marked improvement.
We are seeing a very slight improvement. So fingers crossed we are on the right track.

These large breeds are difficult to rear due to them growing quickly and having joints susceptible to damage when young.

The problem is the bone isn't catching up with tendons and ligaments so slowing the growth down and tightening up the ligaments and tendons is the way to put it right, if in a year he is still showing signs of being really down and it is affecting him then it might be he needs operations, but for now we have been advised and know no operations before he stops growing it could do more damage than good.

It's a bit like bloat so many theories but no actual yes or no to the actual cause it is all trial and error.
A lot of people in the Collie world, Shepherd world and other large breeds all recommend Vit C and let them grow and it mostly rights itself.

Kazz, not receiving the emails I wanted but everything else is coming through. Even people that I signed up to months ago are coming through so it's got to be the agents that have a problem. So weird.
Raining on and off now but have done two walks and hoovered the hallway downstairs.
Have a good evening folks.
