What I saw on todays walk... :-)

Today, being the first day of sun in a week, I decided to go out for a nice long walk with Jed....
Been walking up for about 30mins with Jed off lead, He was just above me, and he freezes in a point, pointing at something very near.... I peer over a rock to see what he's pointing at, ( I was expecting it to be a snake,)
Told Jed to stay skirted wide around the rock to grab Jed, (very proud of my boy, he was so good ) . I put him on lead, then went cautiously over, (within a couple of meters)
and quickly took a couple of photo's,

intrigued yet? (scroll down to see a seriously cute photo)

Fantastic, that has only ever happened to me once in my life, I think because the wind was in the right direction and the fawn was so young that it did what they normally do pretend they are not there.

Fantastic photo!

When they're very young they just lie there and pretend not to be there, Mum runs, and just hopes her babe is well enough hidden, it's probably only a week or so old, I think it's a red deer calf, as it was pretty big, I wouldn't have seen it if it hadn't been for Jed,

Do red deer fawns have spots? I'd have said it was a Roe, but I've just seen you're in Italy, so I haven't a clue!

I've had this happen a few times it's pretty awesome when it does! My grandfather found a Pronghorn baby like that and came home to get us so we could see it too! Pretty special!

Wonderful photo opportunity there! It looks like my little min pin curled up! (Not surprised the Germans call them reh deer!)

The only time I've been that close to a deer was when one leapt into the front of my VW Camper when I was driving through Dorset

Not a happy experience for the deer or for me.
