First proper trip into town
We normally do quite rural walks - the dogs go to the beach, the woods and up to the fields where we keep my horse. We always do some socialisation around quieter streets, and expose the dogs to light traffic when they're young, because I feel it's important for them to be unphased by anything they may come across.
Ella is getting quite chilly in the house, so with only one indoor fleece between two lurchers, I decided it was time to let Ella have hers back and to take Roux on his first adventure into town to get him one of his own.
I decided to sit him on my lap to give him a bit of confidence with the traffic and crowds of pedestrians.
He was an angel
He sat nicely and was very interested in everything going on. At one point a bus passed by us, but rather than hide, he leaned towards it, nose aquiver, trying to figure out what it was.
In the shop, he was a star! Completely relaxed and friendly without being boisterous when people came to say "hello" to him. He did attempt a bit of shoplifting
when we came across a puppy-level display of treats, but came away when I told him to "leave it".
Everyone commented on his looks & good behaviour, and I got to tell several people about the rescue that he cme from, so maybe a few more lurchers will find good homes in our local area
Unfortunately, most of the fleeces and jumpers were much too small, or a bit too "designer" for my tastes, so we only came home with a rawhide bone for each of the dogs and a bag of dried dandelion for my rabbits.
On the way back, Roux decided he wanted to walk, and he trotted alongside the wheelchair beautifully, only returning to my lap when we reached a large crowd outside Morrisons. I think once he is used to my mobility scooter, he is going to be nice and easy for me to walk by myself
The dogs are still settled in their own beds with their rawhide and I don't expect to hear a peep out of either one for a few more hours!
We didn't find a suitable jumper, but one has been ordered, so it should be here when Mum comes to deliver my scooter
