Eddy might actually be a normal dog!

I got Eddy when he was 11.5 years old and under socialised. He was dog aggressive (although never bit, just ran at other dogs barking and then jumped on them ) so is usually kept on a lead.

He did seem to get better with other dogs but then as his hearing and his sight got worse, he couldn't see other dogs as well and couldn't hear or see me calling him if he was too far so he had to go back on the lead. Being on the lead then in turn made him worse with other dogs again.

Recently, we've been going to quiet areas and letting him off the lead, his recall is improving and I'm learning how far he can go before I have to call him back so he can still hear me.

Also, having Rowdy here for 2 and a half months (he's now gone back to his owner and they're very happy!!) seems to have much improved Eddy's behaviour around other dogs - I was shocked how well he tolerated Rowdy but as Rowdy was the one with the balls, Eddy soon realised he had to take note of the little stud! He seems to have learned a lot about how to communicate by being around Rowdy and also having Takara and Rowdy interacting near him all the time.

After about a month Eddy began playing with Rowdy (although Rowdy wasn't sure about it!) but today was our real major breakthrough.

I got brave this morning and allowed Eddy off the lead on a dog park! He was fantastic and behaved almost impeccably - very occasionally he'd have a little grumble but shut up straight away!

We were sat with the dogs when a border collie male came onto the area we were in and Eddy ran straight upto him for a sniff. He didn't even grumble and straight away noted that the other dog wasn't going to take any nonsense and he followed him around like he was a bitch on heat!

Takara went to play and during their chase the border collie knocked into Eddy. At this point all I could think was 'uhoh' - Eddy doesn't like being knocked into much! But the previcox painkillers are clearly making him feel better he bounced around in a circle and playbowed! He then chased the border collie all around the grass until my silly old man disappeared down a hole he quickly regained balance and looked around to see if anybody noticed then carried on playing!

What a wee star he is - I'm so pleased with him, I never really thought we'd get to the stage where he was playing happily with dogs he'd not met before!

Thanks elaine!

I'm still being careful if there's lots of dogs around or if there are any border terriers He wouldn't cope too well with large groups of dogs and he still holds a grudge against borders since he was attacked twice.

It helps that if he's not happy with a certain dog I tell Takara to go and distract said dog and I can concentrate on Eddy while Takara lures them away from him with her 'charm'
