Article in local press re the recent dog attack stories

i thougt you may all be relieved that not all the press is baying for the Rotties Blood.............

In tonight local paper 'Newcastle Chronicle and Journal' there was an article re the recent dog attacks. It turned out to be a very balanced piece of writing. They intervied someone from the cat and dog shelter, who said not to single the breed out as any dog could bite, but as they are such big dogs they do more damage. however they said they go on the background and nature of a particular dog not the breed as to whether they would place them in a new home with children. For those not from these parts this is a very reputable dog and cat sanctury. (plus they dont put dogs to sleep after any lenght of time staying there)

Plus perhaps more importantly they alos interviewd a gentleman whose son was bitten by a Rottie cross.... he said also he does not blame the breed or even that particular dog... but those owners who can't be bothered to train or keep their dogs under control.

There was no baying for any dogs blood at all, I hope this helps to show not everyone is rushing to try and get certain breed banned.

I hope all this made sense, you can tell i'm not a journalist

I have to agree that on Meridain last night .. I felt it was quite a well balanced "peice" it must have been hard as they went from interviewing the family of the toddler attacked to a behaviourist who categorically said that these attacks are NOT out of the blue or random acts and that it was the responsibilty of owners to act upon changes in their dogs in a more positive way ..rather than disregarding it as a stage or taking the easy option of restraining the dogs by chains etc.. it was nice to see someone not baying for blood!!

I read an article in the Mail (yeah I know!) which, from the title, sounded like it was going to be well balanced but in fact turned out to be an article about how all dogs are dangerous!

Read a good one from a Rottie breeder in the local paper today though, which was like a breath of fresh air. She basically said that although Rotties and the like can be dangerous - it's the owners and their lack of care/socialisation of the dog which causes the problem in the end.
