Disabled sheepdog handler

I went to the sheepdog nursery trial finals yesterday - great day, though very long.

One handler in particular really stood out, I thought he was truly amazing. He was given no special treatment (not even a bit of extra time to get across the heavy grass to the pen), nor do I think he would have wanted any.

Many of the others ran out of time, but he had a clean run and came 2nd overall (I would've loved to have seen him win).

The shed in particular was brilliant to watch - he had no crook and couldn't move the sheep around like another handler would, yet the tiniest opportunity and his dog was in and done. Superb

That's amazing. I particularly liked the picture of the sheep in mid-air. Looked really funny!

Ahh Ian McMillan and Lamp Allan knows Ian, and has said he is a really good handler and always runs a good dog. Lovely to see him doing well.

Great photos. I was sorely tempted to come across to watch, but it would have been a very long drive and day with a 3 year old child (as Allan was busy dosing his ewes)!

The results for anyone who might be interested ...

yes, just wish it was a sharper photo, but the light wasn't very good.

Thanks for the results K, we didn't stay for the presentations so I didn't get to see the whole results.

L Magnussen is a lady handler, so nice to hear that she got something. The two young lads did really well too.

I loved thise thread! My daughter is 13 and in a wheelchair and would love to try junior handling but unfortunately after a very bad experience at her last show Im worried about her trying again even though she wants to. Now I think why not!!

Lovely photographs - love the flying sheep
and well done him, amazing the bond between human and dog that they can work together overcoming any limitations in the team

I know a lady with a prosthetic leg who is doing quite well in agility, and have seen a few americans in wheelchairs doing well in agility
