His vet practice is still running and no mention of his death anywhere I can see http://www.brucefogle.com/practice

Think his son Ben would have mentioned if his dad had died on his website too and no mention there.

I have to say, however, I was really impressed with the woman who led the seminar - I didn't find anything that could be classified as remotely cruel or unpleasant - she loved dogs and brought her gorgeous dog with her who was very happy, healthy very friendly and well balanced. She was a very warm and enthusiastic woman and campaigns in my area for better dog walking facilities etc. Based upon my experience of her - I didn't have a problem at all.

Despite what some will suggest there is definitely no one-size training that fits all when it comes to dogs. As long as it doesn't involve force, violence or just generally attempting to "break the dog's spirit" then I don't have a problem with it. I WANT what works for my dog - pure and simple.
That's nice to hear. Yeah I like that she doesn't train with violence but I agree it's not for everybody.
For me I think I can definitely take a couple of things out of her methods and use them, but not strictly follow everything, as every dog is different as is every person.

I think you have to assess what kind of training methods you're using according to your dog. Maybe not all people are able to distinguish that (after all there are people who blindly follow cesar millan..) but I think you need to see how your dog reacts to different training. Some are very sensitive and even a strong 'no' will intimidate them, some are so persistant that ignoring doesn't help etc. At the end of the day you know your dog and it's up to you to find the best way. I think no training methods should be dismissed completely, unless they include violence, intimidation and physical force. I'm sure you made the right choice changing your approach with your dog if you felt that that was the right thing to do, but equally in the future a different dog might benefit from those methods.

It's great to hear about all your different experiences!

I see what you mean but I meant there's no direct punishment. There's only the lack of reward and the guiding of behaviour towards the right kind. And I agree it's totally not permissive. I don't just let my dog do what she wants, but I will show her alternative behaviour if she does the wrong thing and then reward her extensively if she does it right.

Hi As I said,I was checking out the spelling of name for the post,I have read several of his books and the only thing I know about him was that he had been a vet for over 40years,so when a obit came up on my google list,I thought it meant him,it actually referred to a Bruce L who lived in the states, but it was misleading putting a search in and on that search up popped an obit crystalgirl

I had never used such methods on my previous large dog a very excitable cross breed and he turned out fine neither did I use the methods again on on my last Bernese Ollie and I am certainly not using them on Dillon a very naughty boy sometimes and Ollie did and Dillon is turning out to be lovely dogs.
I wish I hadn't wasted my money on the book and certainly hadn't used the methods in the book I may still have in fact I feel certain I would still have her if I hadn't.
She is now living with a lovely family in the West Midlands and has turned out to be everything I had hoped she would.
I find this a bit odd, to be honest. If you realised these methods weren't working, why did you not seek to find other ways that did work for this particular dog?
