I would say ridged, as fudeley have found it to be very slippy in the winter and in the shade.
My oh just said also when you screw in to it, it is likely to split and you catch your toes on the screws not nice.

The decking we got recently was ridged on both sides, one thin & one thick so you could use either side depending on which you liked the look of best. We got it from Jewsons.

We put ours down before decking became popular. we have had ours down for about 10 years and it was all smooth back then, I think the ridged is a big improvement.

Smooth side up looks more natural Karen, but grooved is practicle-especially so if its in a shady area or underneath trees or shrubs where algae will grow.

Although my decking is grooved,i had no choice cause its made from hardwood deck panels and i would have prefered it smooth.Occasional cleaning with a diluted bleach & soapy solution keeps it clean and much cheaper than dedicated cleaners on sale in DIY sheds.
