Made me remember my first doberman, Jack. Smiled when I grabbed the lead or lifted its food bowl!

I wish I had a camera on my phone in those days as would have captured many happy memories.

It's very easy to mis-interpret the smile unless you know the trait. Last night my 'smiler' greeted a friend who came in. She said "don't growl". I said I didn't hear any growl (NEVER heard her growl in 10 years). Friend said "well she showed her teeth". That's entirely different from growling and I only saw her giving her usual smile. I thought the friend would know better, although she hasn't been round in a while she has got a son of smiler!

One of my past collies used to "grin"in a grovelly way at certain family members she wasnt entirely sure of.I suppose that could be said to be a kind of defence,or appeasement.
