She can't swim

Jorja got a swimming pool for Christmas ( well really it is a kiddies wading pool).

She loves it - goes in every day and scrapes - splashes - puts her head under water and blows bubbles.

Took her to the beach yesterday - nice calm water - not too many waves.

She can't swim!!

She sat there and let the little waves just break over her!

I put my hand under her and she started the paddle action, but if I let her go - she sunk!!

How do you teach a dog to swim?

Oh, I forgot to say that her birthday is 1st April -

Is it because she is an April's fools day baby?

lol.

My Kip is the same - loves to play in water & is happy sticking his head under, but he's not keen on swimming. I think its because there isn't much to him and he has no natural bouyancy... he therefore has to paddle really fast to keep above the water.

I'm sure Jorja will know how to swim, but just lacks confidence at the moment and possibly is not paddling fast enough. I believe that you can buy some bouyancy aids which may help to give her some confidence to start with. Alternatively getting her to focus on something which she is keen to get to (e.g. a toy) might encourage her to paddle faster which should stop her from sinking!
