advice on baking a cake

hey, its noahs second birthday in a couple of weeks and im going to be baking him a cake, and im ahving a trial run today- to make sure i can do it lol.
has anyone got good recipe for a sponge, im doing it in a 26cm tray- so has anyone got any good recipes or tips to make sure that it rises well- cause when ive done smaller ones before it doesnt seem to rise well...

i baked the cake it seems to be ok- ill just have to see what it tastes like!
