well im with Tesco Insurance and pay £13.98 a month for Indie with a £50 excess.

But Candie, you have to remember, insurance companies wont pay out for a reccurring condition.
But it is probably worth insuring your dogs? Unless you can put the same amount of money into a sving account every month. Set up a direct debit so it has to go out or sumin? That way u have no choice but to save!

We have Dharma insured with PetPlan. They have the best reputation, especially for paying out, unlike E&L etc. She costs £22 per month. Can't insure Ruby because of her cancer. We're looking into Marks and Sparks though because it would only cost £10 per month and that's with no excess. However, if it's going to be that cheap I'm thinking the cover mustn't be as good as PetPlan, so we're looking into things. If it is as good, we'll change.

I'm with More than, costs about £16 a month for libby, and they cover recurring illnesses and injuries up to £6000.

Had to claim, and they paid up promptly.

Hi Candie
both of mine are insured. Although these are the first dogs we have had insured.
Insured Gus just incase anything ever happened and so glad we did - after his foot licking / food sensitivitys etc. Insurance has paid out nearly £800 ( £350 plus of which was just a one day trip to the specialist - which we would NEVER have been able to afford).

I do it for peace of mind - you never know whats around the corner
( god forbid - dog fight/ car accident etc)

I pay £47 a month with Pet Plan - it is more than I can afford, in all honesty, but because Dexter is a rescue and I have no idea how much care, if any, was taken over his breeding, I want the peace of mind that a comprehensive policy brings.

A family friend had a rescue cat and they too took the most expensive Pet Plan cover. Within one month of bringing the cat home, there were problems with it and they now say that without Pet Plan, they would have literally spent hundreds of thousands of pounds over recent years.

I would always have insurance as you never know what could happen...

When Paige was alive she had bloat (twice), splenic torsion, arthritis, juvenile kidney disese to name just a few...the insurance paid thousands of pounds-Id never be able to afford that.

Thor (is now 4 years old)..has had allergy (was on atopica-not cheap!!), he has had recurring severe bouts of pancreatitis (costing thousands), had corrective eye surgery (once at own vets, twice at a referral vets then finally saw the Professor at Royal College who finally sorted them out-cost was about £5-6,000)Sadly he now has neurological problems (MRI scan plus numerous other tests) cost so far is about £3000) and he has a severe lung condition (only able to walk 10-20 mins max a day) cost for this has not been too bad as done at own vets.

So...looking at the above both woofs wouldve had to have been PTS or me taking out huge loans to cover costs. i defy anyone (unless they are super rich) to say dont bother with insurance!!

So..Thor is with the Kennel Club and I pay loads (ott) as they have hiked up the monthly premium by 50% now £88 a month (but is £12,000 a year fees life cover) and Merlin and Freya are with Petplan for £47.50 a month (£10,000 a year fees life cover).

I would advise always buy the best you can afford and always go for life long policies not 12 month ones. Also, the comparison insurance lull you into a false security with cheap first year premiums then hike the prices up and If you have claimed you are stuck with them as any other insurance will exclude pre-existing conditions...

Good Luck cos insurance is a minefield...esp with just insuring Freya nearly 2 weeks ago!!
