Isla loved it, but I did feel they were trying to get us to run before we could walk due to us being the only beginners there. The fences were taken down too early which resulted in Isla learning that she didn't actually have to go over the jumps so I felt I spent the whole time teaching her how to fail. The dogs were also very noisy (not great for someone like me who is hard of hearing) and Isla was attacked more often than not in between runs. The final straw was trying to force Oscar on to the box.

Are you going to continue going then? I'd love to try agility, but have serious doubts as to whether it'd be any different in terms of atmosphere!
We only went about 3 times and havent been for weeks, decided it wasnt for us. The club I went to didnt even have fences so it was common for the dogs to forget the jumps and just run straight to the box.

I've been doing agility for 4 years and it's totally different. Jessie has been standing in for Flynn these past couple of weeks and she's been brilliant so I may take her there on the odd occassion.

We tried Flyball with Max a couple of years ago, as there were several Boxers going who were doing well and in the competitive teams...

Max was completely non-plussed by the noise (I was deafened). He fell asleep twice on the floor whilst waiting for his turn...

He ran really well down the lane (with and without fences) and was really fast. However, he refused to touch/take a ball. We tried with me holding the ball, with OH holding the ball, with trainers, other handlers, both men and women. No go.

We never even got to trying the box out....

Have since realised (through our other training) that he won't take a 'dead' ball. So, I can't throw something, ask for a wait then tell him to go and get it. He doesn't budge. He will chase a ball/toy/object and bring it back, no problem; but won't take a 'dead' item.

I love flyball!

I was approached by a member of a team at a local show and decided to go along as its free socialisation.

Jinty loves going to have a play.... they have a fenced area where friendly dogs are allowed to play (supervised by owners). There are a few puppies, one is a JRT only 3 weeks younger than Jin and they absolutely LOVE each other.

We don't do proper training, obviously Jin cannot compete until next Easter so we are in no hurry.

We do take the younger ones into the 'lane' and throw balls for them and have fun, so they learn that being in the lane is a great place to be.

Jinty LOVES it. She loves getting the balls and running over the jumps, Ive got a lovely photo of her hopping over the jumps to get the ball at a show we went to this weekend (it was a practice lane, my friend and I were in there letting the pups have a play).

Keep and eye on this space - Jin is a flyball dog in the making!
