Heavy horses

hi guys

i MAY and just let me stress MAY be getting a heavy horse

any of you have had experience with heavy horses? particularly shires? what do people think of them compared to "normal" horses?

all pictures welcome, and will gladly explain in more detail if people are intrigued

They cost more to feed, they cost more to shoe , they cost more in everything you do, tack, rugs as an example.

yes i am moving to spain. only for a year. where i may get it from, already knows this (close friends) and it wont be until i get back.

yeah i gathered that shoe wise im lucky i know a farrier, my best friends brother, who has already said he wont charge as much, (for instance he does all his horses and would do mine the same)

The Suffolk Punch would be my breed of Heavy Horse in the UK, abroad I would like a Percheron.

You have to be VERY careful about mud fever in the hairier breeds such as Shires and Clydesdales!

I have ridden a Shire out and it is a very weird feeling galloping such a huge animal!

my friend has 19 shires, thats what im thinking of going for

The climb up is a long way and its a long way to jump down (or fall off) - and if they tread on your foot it b****y well hurts a lot.

think either way a horse standing on my foot would b**ody hurt! thats what steel toe caps are for

Then you can do a sukahara with a one and a half twist! ROFLMAO

ps plan your riding route carefully, if you have to get off, you are stuffed, however nowadays you can get those stirrup lengtheners that you can lower for getting on and then pull up; in my day you had to be pretty nimble; mind you I WAS a lot younger, and thinner then...........
