I saw it a month ago (It was out here on March 23rd) I thought it was great... but the books are way awesome!!! I read all three in 2 days.... I couldn't put them down!

From what people have told me and the trailer it looks like the basic idea is the same. People that have seen both have also said its a watered down version of battle royal.

Will wait for it to come out on DVD and find out i guess!

It's not Battle Royale!

Aside from the fact that, yes there are a bunch if teenagers who can't escape and have kill each other, that's where any similarity ends. The Hunger Games is a brilliant concept, I read the first book in a one day as I couldn't put it down and I thought the film was wonderfully faithful to the books. I'm so sick of it being compared to Battle Royale, it's a great trilogy which should be enjoyed in it's own right!

I could list at least 10 things off the top of my head that Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter share - wizards, dwarves, elves, giant spiders, wraiths/dementors, but that doesn't mean that one is imitation of another. Books within a genre will always have some overlap. Doesn't make it a rip off or "watered down"
