Questions on pregnant dogs....

Hi there

Sorry for my ignorance but don't know much about this, can anyone tell me the answers to these questions,

What is the longest time a dog can be in labour?

How overdue can it be before it goes in for a C section?

And how soon after a litter is born are you able to detect problems with a pup?

Thanks for your help.

they are like woman and all are diffrent some labour quickly and others slowly but you should never let a bitch push for more than 2 hours with out a pup

How overdue can it be before it goes in for a C section?

i know of a bitch that want 7 days over she had a small litter of only 3

And how soon after a litter is born are you able to detect problems with a pup?

Hi Maplecottage I agree with Natalie on the above.
Regarding puppies, some physical defects including most cases of cleft pallet ,hernia and hydrcephalus can be detected at birth.
Also puppies with defects usually behave differently to normal puppies, the bitch can often tell there is a problem (it is thought by smell or movement ) and she will ignore them, they are often cold/limp and make a funny mewing sound. Other things appear when the puppies start to walk properly between 3/4 weeks.
Hope all goes well.....

Thankfully we aren't worried about anything yet, I guess my thoughts are coming from whether the birth is going to be okay, and it's going to be a very small litter apparently too so not sure how that's going to go for the Dam.

She was due to give birth yesterday. We are still waiting to hear on how it went, if it went, so to speak but not sure whether we should call her today to make sure everything is okay???

Thanks for asking

There is still plenty of time, my friends cocker had a c-section last week on day 72! She had 4 very healthy pups.
