It is not the drive per se that is the issue but the arrangement of the predatory motor pattern, these differ from breed to breed which is why Border Collies behave in one way and wolves another!

She DOES have prey drive but her predatory sequences does not include a certain sectin of it!

Fudge is a collie cross and does become obsessive with repeated behaviours. She runs rings literally around the rabbit run and would do so all day .She does not however do anything to them if they escape...just herds them around the garden.

Buttons is a cocker and does the fetch thing but enjoys chewing things far more!

Smokey can you explain a little more about the predatory motor pattern?

If you have the Coppinger book it goes into more detail

If no one else has answered in my absence I will expand tomorrow.

ok, that makes sense. My Mal pup (15 weeks) killed a blackbird when my JRT caught and released it. I guess Keiko has the whole shebang when it comes to prey drive!!!

Sometimes mine does, sometimes he takes the cat line of "you threw it go get it yourself" - it's the chasing act he seems to enjoy more than anything else.

My lot chase anything that moves, they don't always bring it back, if they do bring it back they get bored with the game very quickly and just want to destroy whatever the victim is or race round with it trying to get it off of each other.

Mine love to chase balls, but Jake also likes being chased! His favourite game is to run after a ball, and if he gets it first, get Simon to chase after him.
