Anyone have experience of travel sedatives?

Bailey is going on a long journey soon that can't be avoided But he's not good at travelling so the vet has given him some sedatives so he will sleep.
We don't have any time to get him used to going on long car journeys so it seemed like the best option

But I just wanted to know what to expect from him. Has anyone used them before?

We're going on a test journey first to see how many he has to take. I hope it goes ok!

I've never used sedatives for travelling, but usually the doseage is based on the weight of the dog. I am a bit puzzled that your vet did not give you any indication of how many tablets to administer I would advise giving the absolute minimum necessary.

Oops I didn't make that very clear

The vet did give a dosage, but it can vary between needing 3 and 6, so we have to do a trial run and see how he reacts to them If the 3 works fine then I will only give him that.
The vet said he couldn't overdose on them though.
Thanks SB

Right - thought it was a bit odd

I would guess, and it is only a guess, that 3 will just relax him and 6 will zonk him out for a few hours

Thanks you're probably right I'll have to see how he reacts to the car when he's just "relaxed"
