Pit Bull "type" dog attack - but is it?!

A BBC News report from yesterday:
Kennel worker mauled by two dogs

Apparantly "mauled by 2 pit bull type dogs"

And today:
Attack dogs not illegal breeds

The dogs were "American bull dog and mastiff cross breeds". But why even bring "pit bull type dogs" into it from the beginning??

Because it's the usual sensationalist headlines to get peoples attention. If they reported every dog bite I would bet that the majority of them were by small terriers i.e. westies :smt002

No, quite right they dont. "type" being the keyword. But it does appear to have been a presumption by the media (yet again) also I wouldnt have thought this particular cross would come across as PIT "type"?

Obviously I havent seen them
