Companion Show Tomorrow in Midlothian

Just thought I would post this here so anyone interested could go. It is kind of last minute but I only found out about it 2 days ago. It's a fun dog show being held by a charity called Gracehounds. Gracehounds is a recently formed charity who foster and rehome greyhounds and lurchers. The show is being held at Vogrie Country Park , which is on the B6372 between Gorebridge and the A68. From Sherrifhall Roundabout on the Edinburgh City Bypass , follow directions for the A68 which is signposted to Jedburgh. Go through Dalkeith and continue on the A68 for about 4 miles. You will pass a petrol station on your left , followed by a climb up a hill. There are roadworks about halfway up this hill ( single lanes and a small diversion). The A68 is clearly signposted at these roadworks. After the roadworks , you will pass a junction on your left. This is signposted to Haddington and there is a small monument at the junction. A short way after that on your left , you will see a speed camera , and on the right there are chevrons on the road marking a right turn. Turn right at this junction. There is a brown sign directing you to Vogrie here . As you turn right onto the B6372 , there is set of buildings on the right (Oxenfoord Home Farm Livery Stables). Follow the B6372 for about 3 miles. You will pass a crossroads , go through a village called Dewartown and as the road gets twisty , you will find the entrance to Vogrie on your left ( stone gate posts and a lodge house). Drive into the estate and the car park is on your left. Park the car and the show is in the field just past the car park. The show starts at 11 am. The emphasis is on a fun day out for everyone. There was no description of classes but I'm sure there will be something for everyone. Entry is £1 per class.
( If you miss the turn onto the B6372 , carry on along the A68. You will pass "The Stair Arms Hotel" on your right then cross a bridge into a village called Pathhead. There is a junction on the right immediately as you drive into the village. It is a double junction , one road goes down a hill and the other goes straight on. Take the road which goes down the hill ! Signposted to Ford , you will pass a few houses and up the other side of the hill. There is a junction at the top of the hill. Turn left and this takes you back on to the B6372 (at the crossroads before Dewartown village).

Arggh how fed up am I

I would have loved to come to this - pretty easy for me to get there and I've been looking for places to take Stumpy to socialise her.

But with Stumpy in heat and Hoki recovering from a cruciate ligament op, we're all housebound

Hopefully they'll have another one next year.

Hope you have a great time if you go - let me know all about what I've missed.

Aww Hali , what a shame you can't go . This is their first show so I'm sure they will have more if this one goes well. How long are your dogs out of action ? There's a show next weekend , Haddington show , which has a companion dog show. There are also companion dog shows at Thirlestane Horse Trials , Lauder on 16th August, Scottish Staffie Rescue in Edinburgh , 31st August , Callander Highland Games ( check the details on the Members Section - Companion Dog Shows ). There is also an event at Thirlestane Castle , Lauder in 2009 called Dogs Allowed. That's a 2 day dog show with demonstrations and fun dog show held over both days. Their website is www.dogsallowed.org.uk. The event is in May and although I missed this year as I didn't know about it , I will be going next year as it looks really good . Keep your eye on the Companion Dog Shows in the Members Section for details of shows and events. I posted this one on here as it is short notice.

Ooh that dogs allowed looks good and not too far from me. Unfortunately I can't make the companion show as my hubby is busy clipping just now, so I have to look after the pups, dogs, baby and roll wool too if I get a chance

Hope you have a good day.

LOL - ironing? What is that? I haven't managed to get around to doing any ironing for about the past 2 weeks!

Thanks Missymum, that's really useful.

We'll have to miss the Haddington one too but might get to the ones in Agust (this year and next!)

Thanks for the replies folks . I've been to several companion shows around here and they have all been a great day out . Some do involve a bit extra travelling but that makes it more of an adventure , especially if you get a bit lost . The Callander Highland Games was very good. Several Dogsey members went last year and ALL passed their KC Bronze Good Citizen. It was a great day out and I will be going again this year . This show tomorrow , it's a first for the organisers. I'll let you all know how it goes. Haddington Show is a big agricultural show with classes for horses , cattle , sheep , tractors and even best crop and best farm ! It has a small dog show with a few classes , and main ring events for entertainment. I'll report back on that one too as it is the first time I've been ( with my dog . Showed a horse there years ago and won my class ). Another excellent show was The Duke of Buccleuch Hunt Supporters Club Terrier and Lurcher Show , held near Selkirk. It is mainly a working terrier and lurcher show but they also have classes for all breeds.
Dogs Allowed looks great and I will definitely be going although it's not till next May.

Here's a copy of the email I've just received from Gracehounds about tomorrows classes. Hot Dogs Show , Vogrie Country Park , 11am - 3pm.

Hi Suzanne,

Apologies for taking so long to reply, Lois has asked me to get back to you on her behalf. The type of categories we will have tomorrow are prettiest pooch, dashing boy, over 8's, rescue dog, there will be a junior handler section, a puppy category etc. I will be based at the gracehounds stall, please come and introduce yourself, we look forward to seeing you and Missy tomorrow

Rhona
