oh brill!!! next see if you can get her to recall him when she dosent want him, give him a pat & send him away again, then you can get in a sort of "oh hes really understanding you now,wow look at the speed of that recall, hes such a smart dog he dosent need all those smacks, do you think he learns better by praise he seems to ?"etc etc etc

You might find that it takes longer to train her than it does to train her dog Sorry everyone, I've just reached the age when I despair of most humans. (But there is hope on this board )

Sorry I wasn't very helpful, Sarah. Owners like that make me see red.

Anyhoo, just thought I'd wish you luck in "tactfully" retraining her......

She did a brilliant recall today I'd got mine on the lead (they're usually pretty good about it) and her dog was lying down with a stick a few yards away.

She called him and he just looked at her with his tail wagging. Usually she would get annoyed after a bit and go up to him so he'd then run away.

But this time she stood still and looked at him. He came straight to her wagging his tail and stood in front of her!

So I said 'That was really good!' etc. etc.

There's hope yet!

Leanne - I'm the opposite to you ! I can tell strangers off cos I don't care what they think, but with friends and family I often don't say what I'm thinking because I don't want to fall out with them

I smack my dog but not when they refuse to do a recall it confuses the dog try explaining that to her, at the end of the day he is being told off for coming back.

Hi ATD - when is it ok to smack a dog then?

I must say, I never smack my dog and that's why it upset me so much to see my friend smack her dog.

BTW, his recall has been brilliant for the past 5 days or so
