Feeding the birds

Is everyone remembering to feed the birds in this cold weather?

I can always tell when it's cold because we get longtailed tits on the feeders and we've had plenty of those this morning.

My garden birds are just discovering the porrige oats but their is plenty of bug life in my garden (especially earth worms)) to keep them going. I think that is why I have seen so many young black birds all ready, the little fella is still alive and he looks very big his crop is enormous ^^

I've got some food hanging from the bird box but non of them are bothering with it. A squirrel stole the last one.
I have plenty of magpies and pigeons on the conservatory roof though and they like to tap dance.

Starlings, wood pigeons and doves are the usual visitors. Since the snow we've also had blackbirds and even the seagulls have popped in and raided a few times.

Leave water out for the birds as well if everything is frozen up.

every cold morning I do them fresh water. I walked past their water this morning and thought 'must give them some water before I leave for work' as it was all frozen. And I forgot.... sorry birds

Yes, I'm doing my bit, but I had to stop for a couple of weeks as we got rats, but now they've gone (thanks to the ratman and the neighbours with their chickens doing the same), so I've started again.

I bought a bag of robin food because it's also for blackbirds, and I have a pair of robins and loads of blackbirds but the little blue tits seem to like this food too, I've now got two regular visitors. I've also put a dish on the windowsil full of sultanas and currants coz the blackbirds adore those and don't mind me watching them from my kitchen window.

The problem I have are 3 bladdy woodpigeons who swoop down and settle on the tray and eat the lot! I keep shooeing them off, but back they come.... might have to get the gun out again!! NOOO, I jest!!!
