Dog training - Huddersfield

Hi does anyone know of any good training classes in the huddersfield area? I have been struggling to get hold of anyone at the places I have found so wondered if anyone could recommend one that I could carry on trying.....

Not sure if any of you are from this area but thought it would be worth a try to ask

Thanks

Hi Nlulu not sure what level of training you are interested in . Have you checked out the APDT to see if there is anything suitable..

Thanks Minihaha thats a great link and I have now found another one to try....to be honest Im not sure what level I want to take him to yet. The plan at the moment is to start with basic obedience and work up from there.
I have never done classes before so I would like to find a trainer who is going to help me decide where to go after that.
I have looked into gun dog training and working trials a little bit but as I have no experience of these things I want to do some more research and see what Sherlock enjoys doing the most during his training. Thanks again

Hi Nlulu The APDT run various classes and other events using positive reinforcement methods.

Other people run classes but they don't necessarily use the best training methods so you need to take care when choosing a class .

I have found if you contact a local APDT trainer they will be pleased to help you and point you in the right direction. They are usually happy for you to go and sit it on a class too to observe before you join.

Just had a lovely conversation with a trainer on that website and have enrolled him in their classes for as soon as his vaccinations have completed
It turned out to be very local and the lady was so helpful and chatty. Even said I could call anytime if I needed any advice before I can get to the classes.
Huge thanks for that link as the other trainers I had spoken to left me feeling like it was all so serious.....this lady made me feel comfortable about the methods and talked about making it fun for both owner and puppy
She also said that if I get there and dont want to join after the first session I dont need to pay joining fee etc too which fills me with alot of confidence
Thanks again

Hi Nlulu I am sure Shelock will love it. Don't forget until the vaccinations are complete you can still take him out and about in a car or your arms to help with his socialisation.
