When can I change to 2 meals a day?

My pup is only 16 weeks old, but can some-one please tell me at what point can I start changing him from 3 meals a day to 2 meals?

I have a puppy the same age.

This is a question I have asked many people and the answer ranges from 4 months to eighteen months.

Everybody is different i guess.

I am going to talk to the vet at his 6 month check.

Some people say do it earlier rather than later others say three meals a day til 18 months as he is still growing

I changed my pup onto two meals when he was 6 months, but our vet said its fine any time from 5 months.

I've always changed mine at around six months which seems to be the norm amongst my friends and acquaintances.

I have just cut Bruce down to two meals a day. He is 7 months. He will stay on puppy food till he is 18 months.

At 16 weeks old my pup was still on 4 meals a day, she didn't go to 3 meals a day until she was nealy 5 months, she's now 8 months and still has a small 3rd meal, but normally I would say about 4 months to go from 4 meals to 3 meals and 6 months to go from 3 meals to 2 meals, but it depends on the individual dog.

Mine went from 3 meals to 2 at about 5 months, but unlike a lot of the previous posters, I have small, fairly light weight dogs

A lot will depend on your dogs breed, size, exercise regime and lifestyle.

If you have a larger breed, or a late maturing one (sometimes not always a large breed) then you would be best leaving them on 3 meals for longer.

Use your eyes and your hands to guage how is weight is - if he feels/looks a bit pudgy then perhaps drop the third meal, but if he feels about the right weight or slightly lean then leave him on the three meals whilst he's still growing.

Ours Crested pups have always gone from 3 meals to 2 between 5/6months!

Etta is 18mths and still has three. I tend to look at the dog and go from there. She is still skinny and does a fair bit so three smaller is better than shovelling it in twice a day.

we put our puppy down from 4 meals to 3 at 3mnths and plan to put him on 2 meals a day from 6mnths. He will stay on puppy food till 1 year.
