Fostering over Christmas

After reading on another thread you can foster over Christmas - I am defiantly thinking about doing it next year so can someone tell me what requirements and/or rescues that participate in this scheme..

Thanks

I'd contact local rescues and ask yourself. I volunteer at Rescue Remedies which is why I knew about their Christmas fostering scheme
I filled out the same questionnaire as the "full-time" fosterers do but had been in touch with them beforehand to say it was just for Christmas.

How long is just over Christmas - 2-3 weeks or just a few days? I know this will depend on the rescue but what does RR do?

I'm fostering for about 2 weeks as that's how long I'm off for (the construction industry shuts down over Christmas, lucky me!) but I know RR does let people take dogs home over the weekend too - to a kenneled dog, even 2 days is a welcome change of scenery and it gives the rescue a better idea of how the dog acts in a home environment. Imagine it would depend on the rescue though - I know the kennels I help out at depends entirely on volunteers to give the dogs all the exercise and socialisation they need so a weekend fosterer not only gives that dog the much appreciated break but also lightens the load for the other volunteers. A rescue that had their own kennel setup with regular staff in attendance may think it's better on the dogs to stay in their kennels and stick to their regular routine rather than be fostered for such a short period of time.

Surrey isnt that far from Nottingham though right? Lol - as I said it would have to be next year now - I may have a job on Christmas eve! Not when I wanted it but it is a trial and I need a job so if I have to work one unsocialble night - I will do it if it means I may get a permanent job - that has nothing to do with fostering a dog but I'm excited lol

Thanks Krlyr

Only about 3 hours - it's a pretty straight drive down Good luck with the job trial though
