I was going to suggest the same thing! Impossible to diagnose though.

I 'thought of it' but felt too daft to suggest it! However, in humans there are many problems that can affect the inner ear that are not 'visible' when looking inside the ear.

Like when the little rocks or crystals shift about (similar to vertigo?) And tinnitus of course is a really horrible and incurable ailment. One of my neighbours suffers from it having worked in really noisy ship engine rooms for many years.

What a worry for you Bitkin. I hadn't realised your dog was a rescue that had had a not very nice earlier life.

Bitkin I am only posting this to cheer you up! I was looking up whether dogs can get tinnitus and found this on one of the 'Vets online now to answer your questions' sites.
Q. Can a dog get tinnitus?

Expert reply from Licensed Vet
Yes. Signs in a dog include:
- Increased weight: normal;font-style: normal;font-variant: normal;text-decoration: none;">reflexes.
- The dog is easily excited into more violent, general spasms by movement or noise.
- Spasms of head muscles
- Lockjaw
- High body temperature
- Third eyelid prolapse.
- Spasms of the neck and back muscles
- A “sawhorse” stance where their legs are wider than normal
- Short/shallow respiration
Consciousness is not affected when this happens

Response from Questioner:
tinnitus not tetanus.

I am in stitches here...........thank you Tang!!!

I never thought of the possibility of tinnitus, but how the heck would you ever find out if that was the cause Impossible probably.

Thank you everyone, when I next see the vet I will see what he says about it - it's not an emergency, so will wait until the check up in a few weeks time.

Still laughing about Tang's post
