I don't think he is a stupid dog! in fact he more likely the opposite, clever dogs learn what they can get away with.

Very true though. How old is he, and did he used to come back is this something he has just started

There could be 101 reasons really!

Do you shout at him? Do you take treats out with you to make coming back to you more interesting? have you ever chased him to try to catch him?

Do you always do the same walk, ignoring him during the walk then expect him to come back at the end?

Have you ever told him off when he returns to you after going AWOL?

His he getting enough exercise?

How old is he?

Can you get him to do other things usually?

Are there more problems than this?
