Book now at the publishers
My new book, "Polly & Friends" is at the publishers and should be rolling off the press very soon. It is a collection of poems, anecdotes and stories celebrating dog life mainly from the dog's point of view and is 96 pages packed with colour photos.
It can be bought online from the publishers or direct from myself - details to follow!
Don't be put off by the poetry element - nothing highbrow, on the other hand nothing "cute" either...... here is an example from one of the poems....2nd verse of "Ramblings of a travelling dog"
"It’s not too bad in the back during daylight,
We can stare through the back window and see
Other cars which creep up too close behind
Occupants amused, seeing us cooped up in a cage
While we make indignant faces about it
We don’t find this amusing at all
And need to campaign for a bigger car
Or at least our freedom to spread out a little
My friend takes up far too much room, in my opinion
I am sure I must be entitled to half the cage!
Sometimes I face forward, he backwards
That way we are sure to miss nothing
Although he doesn’t always tell me what he’s seen
So I keep to myself the fascinating fact
That “she” has opened some packet of food
And may pass some of it back where I am waiting."
....and in a different style, two verses from one about a dog that hates being shown and sabotages all attempts to make it perform....
"I’ll place my feet at “ten to two”
There won’t be much that you can do
One leg forward, another back
Regardless of the “proper” stack
I’ll stretch my back so I am LONG
So overall I’ll look quite wrong
And curl my tail to form a “C”
I think that really flatters me!
I’ll clamp my mouth shut good and tight
The judge will have a mighty fight
To see my teeth so white and clean
That’s if I’m feeling not TOO mean!
Then there’s the loose one, at an angle
Perhaps I’ll simply let it dangle
All the time I’ll twirl around
While you, my dear, daren’t make a sound"
Taken from "Showing? Off!"
A proportion of the profits will go to dog welfare/rescue organisations both sides of the Irish Sea.
More details to follow .... watch this space as they say!
