Not good news, unfortunately - full rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament.

Being referred to the Glasgow Vet School to see their specialist orthopedic surgeons as she will most likely need surgery due to the severity of it and because she is middle aged.

Bloods also being sent off for liver, kidney and thyroid testing as she will probably be on pain relief for some time.

Totally gutted.

Oh bums. I was afraid that this was the case, but am sad that she has to have an operation. Sometimes little dogs can get away with it.

Still, despair not because even though you are facing a tough few months, the outlook should be excellent for Molly.

If it's a full rupture, which is what Molly's is, apparently it will not heal by itself, so surgery is looking very likely. Still, she'll be in the best possible hands.

It's really not fair - she's not overweight, she's well fed and well exercised. Oh well, I guess these things happen, unfortunately.

Hope you're right Bitkin in that Molly's future will be a good one, she's only 9 and a half.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, thank god for insurance.

I am sure that it will be Westie........our last dog Bitz was older than Molly, and a much bigger dog too. She went on for many more years once everything had healed properly. It is not an easy ride, but it is well worth it in the end.

I'm sorry to hear it wasn't better news, and it will be tough but you will come out the other side and Molly will once again be able to have a good quality normal life.
As she is only a small dog she should get on very well as she won't be putting so much weight on it.
Lots of rest is now on the cards so she needs to get used to being a lady of leisure.

Its got nothing to do with the excellent way you care for her, its unfortunatly as you say just one of those things that can happen to any dog and she will be in excellent hands at the vet school.
