Galastop & Phantom Pregnancy

I took my bitch today to be speyed, but was sent home without this happening and with Galastop.

She had a vet check last week to make sure she was fit and well for the op, & I advised that my son who she has been living with, thought she may be having a phantom pregnancy. She was in season at christmas. The vet that checked her last week couldn't see any evidence of milk and felt that it would still be ok to go ahead with the op.

However, today a different vet said there was a tiny amount there and he and another vet both said they would not want to proceed. They have given her galastop drops for a week. I did question whether she needs these as I do not know now when I will be able to re-schedue the op due to work commitments.

Does anyone have any experience of using this, good or bad?

My bitch Rio was speyed at the 4th attempt due to a phantom and was given several courses of galastop which eventually worked.
The first time she went in the vet said he thought her season was imminent so the op was postponed and she came into season a couple of days later. Two months from the end of the season we booked her in again.
The second attempt was postponed as she was apparently having a phantom and was lactating although there were no obvious signs or symptoms. She was given galastop for 10 days to sort it out and rebooked in for 14 days.
The third attempt was postponed as although the phantom had passed and she was no longer lactating, her lymph glands were swollen indicating an infection, so she was given antibiotics for a week and rebooked. Frankly I was beginning to think she was trying to tell me something, even the vet commented that she obviously wanted puppies and wasn't giving in easily.
The fourth attempt was successful and straightforward. Picked her up at 4pm she came out of the vets at her usual 90mph was fun keeping her quiet. We had to take it in turns to sit with her so that she could have the bucket off her head for a while, but it seemed to have escaped her notice that she had undergone an operation.

The galastop will dry up the milk very quickly, she should be fine. Wait a few weeks then think about spaying again.

Rio actually had 3 courses of galastop so it didn't work that quickly but there were no side effects at all for her but tbh she's pretty robust and has never had an upset tum over anything. It can cause nausea apparently but she didn't suffer from anything.

Worked within 3 days on my bitch and others I know of. Was she very heavily burdened?

No not at all from my point of view as I hadn't even noticed but Rio never does easy She's an awkward mare at the best of times, hopefully she's the exception to the rule then.
