How many gadgets and your dogs still pulling

Out with the dogs today and there was a man in the distance with a lab sized dog. The guy clearly calls his dog to come on but it decides it sitting and waiting for my dogs to reach it
Both mine are offlead but chilled and happy so I carry on

When I get up to the guy I see his dog is on an extendy lead with a spring thing at the end and clipped onto a choke chain
We walk past and the guys dog decides it is walking with us and so just comes
Pulling so fast that the guy is pulled into a run at some points
Every now and again the guy tries to tug the dog and then says 'I wish you wouldnt pull - im the boss not you'

A bit of a shame really - for both of them. But really and extendy lead and a choke chain!

That is a weird combo!
His "I wish" statement had me laughing, though

Loads of people seem to walk their dogs on an extendables (sp) attached to a choke or a head collar, makes me cringe I have to say.
I do know how he feels about the "I wish" bit though when I'm having a bad training day!

That's really dangerous! That dog could so easily hurt itself!

I got Pepper a harness when we were going away and she was going to be on an extendable lead and weirdly after months of failing to get her to walk nicely on lead she just did from the minute she had the harness on!

halti works with suki but makes michael worse.
Harness works with michael but makes suki worse.
Chocker works on em both. I dont like extendable leads as sukis broke when she was bout 6months old the spring cam out along with the lead, and she wasnt even fully grown and i bought the size as if she were an adult. I prefer lunge lines.

oh and i laso tried the halti harness with suki...useless lol

I only use an extending lead with a harness. I used one of those spring things with a very large lab we were fostering, but the lead I used with him was very short - his head was about my waist height.

I think the main technique to stop pulling is consistency and having the patience of a saint
