Doesn't sound good but the right person might still be able to extract the info off the hard-drive, they take it apart and can remove the whole memory and put in onto another computer or a memory device like a stick. Definitely worth looking into, I thought I'd lost all the stuff on my old laptop and a friend of a friend was able to retrieve it all!

It shouldn't be too hard to retrieve your data/photos. However, as it's a netbook presumably it's got no CD/DVD drive. What you need is a Live USB. Assuming your netbook will boot from one, which it should...Of course, to set one of those up you need a working PC etc... If you think that's the way forward, PM me if you need more info/can't find anything useful on Google.

a simple windows repair may resolve the issue like mentioned before,

data is retrieveable off a hard drive so dont worry about that
