A bit shocked!

Yesterday my sister was telling me about her new job at an old peoples home. She has been a carer before and at the last home she was at they had to have a talk on what to do in the event of a fire. The firechief came from the local fire station and my sister apparently asked how they would go about getting the old people out. The firechief then told her that they have to get themselves out and shut the doors and leave the old people in and don't attempt to rescue them because they have had their lives The people at the new place have also been told this. No wonder my mum is so set against going in a home

No its not a joke, its true apparently according to my sister. It sounds absolutely awful doesn't it. I can imagine they are telling people not to risk their lives but this just sounds so brutal

So jsut because these people are old doesn't mean they should be sacrificed in event of a fire, how......oooh this could get moved to debates sooooon!!!!!!!!!

It is quite frightening isn't it. No wonder a lot of care homes are closing down, think old people are safer in their own homes

foxy your sister is 100% right on this one i have worked 6yrs in nursing homes and everytime we had a fire inspection we were all told the same it sounds really harsh but you have to think of your own life and when you think if i fire spreads you dont have the chance to get any of the residents out thank god we have never had fires at our homes i ccouldnt imagine leaving the old ones behind

i could never get my self out and leave the old people behind, knowing what might be about to happen to them!! thats sick!!
