Very sad news re Cherry

Sad news today as Cherry went for her CT scan at Fakenham. The vet showed me the pictures and they show one side of her nose (where it is continually running and looks sore) is damaged as instead of air in the cavity it has soft tissues there. They say it is a tumour and it will spread but they have sent tissue away for a biopsy whch we should hear the results from later this week.

I asked the vet there is we should have her put to sleep then and there but he said no to wait for the results. However, on discussing this with my husband when I got back home we have decided to put her to sleep tomorrow and the vet will be coming round between 12-2pm. They ring you just before leaving as they can't guarantee an exact time beforehand as they may get emergencies.

He said she is not in pain but this last weekend she has deteriorated and is licking her nose most of the time and sneezing violently. Cherry does not show pain either-she is very stoic. I would say she is constantly uncomfortable.

She is only 10 and a half which is not old for a Kerry but I can't see her suffer and would rather make the decision too early then too late.

How does Parker cope with this? Should I show him Cherry's body afterwards? They have been together since he was 8 weeks old and he is now 9 and a half.

What do we do re burial/cremation? I am not able to think clearly at the moment as I was expecting this news but am still devastated as you can magine.

The vet at Fakenham said the tumour is not treatable because of its location. I can't stand the thought of her being here with a death sentence over her. I put her through enough last year with all the eye operations she ended up having.

Oh I am so sorry to read this, I cant imagine what you are going through, such a hard decision to make, but you have so you are doing the most caring thing you can do.

I have read that it helps other dogs to see the body, it helps them to deal with it better, and they then understand what has happened and accept it better than the other dog just disappearing.

Big hugs for tomorrow for you all.

I am so sorry to hear this news, was dreading this outcome from your last thread.

i understand your worries and admire you takign action straight away.

When Bandit had his eye removed due to his tumor behind the eye, they could nto get it all and out fear was it would grow into the nasal cavities..(thankfully that did not happen) I remember the specialist telling us that due to the location and it being impossible to remove it would become incredibly painful,

Sorry this is where you are at, and my thoughts go out to you for tomorrow,xx

Sorry to read this but I, like you, would rather a week too early than a day too late.
As for showing Parker the body, I have only done this the once with my first dog and I can't say it did any difference, it took him several weeks for him to realise she wasn't coming back and he still looked for her even after seeing her body. It was heartbreaking for me because I couldn't explain it to him and I thought showing him her body he may understand but it didn't stop him grieving.
{{{HUGS}}} to you.
Becky

So very sorry to be reading this, you must have fallen to bits when looking at those pictures with the vet

I wish you great strength for when the time comes tomorrow, but you will find it to give her the love and comfort she needs to go on her way. What a truly responsible dog owner you must be to be putting her first as we all try our utmost to do in these awful circumstances. I was there 3 years ago this Saturday with my last dog with cancer, so I feel your pain, and the last thing you want is for them to be in pain. All the very best, my heart goes out to you.

Oh My God I'm so sorry

It's a horrible decision to have to make especially after what you went through with her eye.

My thoughts are with you and a million {{hugs}} for you all.

Goodnight and God Bless Cherry
