14mth old springer spaniel

Hello all,
We have a 14 month old springer he is a rescue dog, he is a loving dog.
We have had him nearly 3 weeks and for the first week he was fine, but just recently he has started fouling in the kitchen over night and getting into the cupboards after food. he was neutered lastwednesday.
My question is,What can we do to try and stop him acting like he is we know deep down there is a lovely dog so we are willing to perservere with him.
We have treid getting him to sleep in his crate but quite frankly he is barking the house down and crying when left in it.
thank you Andy

Hi Andy first welcome to Dogweb, oh dear, poor little Springer, it's all been happening for him hasn't it ..he's only been with you three weeks, just getting used to his new home and routine then an operation, it's probably all been a bit much for this confused little chap.

To crate a dog takes time and patience and can't be done all at once particularly with a dog that has never been used to a crate ,as to the soiling I would go back to early housetraining until he gets into a routine. The food? Put it where he can't get to it or place something in front of the cupboard at night.I will post links to two Dogweb articles which may be of help to you..
