Thanx Mish - very helpful. And your methods of training the send away makes far more sense to me that what Zane had done before. far more consistent which is what I think he (as with everyother dog) needs right now particularly.

Whats an "A recall"?

"A Recall" is a Recall into Heel position (as opposed to recall to a sit in front). Its Called a A recall as its introduced in OB class A.

im surprised your trainers taught you send away without first getting your A recall tbh, you cant really do a proper send away without the A recall,

I think if you want to compeat you need to find trainers that know what they are doing.

A very interesting thread for me and some really helpful replies. Monty is now 15 months and boy - don't i know it. Whether is a mind blank or just playing up, only he knows, lol.

I'm going to have to take him back to basics and do a lot of re-training (the thought of walking round in a hall in circles for an hour makes me want to throw up though) - however if needs must, i suppose!!

if his healwork is sort of there, try jazzing it up with diff types of lines, figures of 8's anything but trudging round and round you will never survive it, lmao

It's more for the 'having to behave' when interacting with other dogs - a lot of his 'work' training has obviously been done singularly and this has affected his ability to work/behave around other dogs in a training situation.

Unfortunately and one of them happens to be the closest to me. It's not like that 100% of the time but the fair majority is working in a circle.

sadly they are ten a penny round this way your far more likely to land in one of these type of clubs than stumble over a decent training club.

ETA~: you can often hear said training classes before you see them, as the trudging round the hall is coupled with loud shouts of "CLOSE,CLOSE,CLOSE" with the rattling of heavy chains between each close

yep, same here.

I took Hoki to socialise her but we were both bored stupid. The really, really sad thing was that I took Stumpy a couple of times almost 2 years later to give her a bit of socialising...and the same people were in the classes trying to do the same things as they were when I first took Hoki!
