Human Backpack for small dogs.

Hello.

Before you tell me that small dogs should be walking all the time - this will not be the case with Ash - he is a small poodle mix who have a paw missing on his back leg. He is also only 4 weeks old so not with us yet but I would like a backpack to put him in while he is resting.

I go between 4 and 20 miles walk a day so would like a good strong backpack that is comforable too.

Any good one out there?

Hi Lara, well done for taking on a dog with a disability

I'm not really sure which sort of back pack would be suitable tbh (maybe one of our members will have an idea) but think it's a good idea to get the dog used to being carried if you think he will need it when he's older.

Also, your vet might be able to advise about special carrying devices, so it's always worth chatting with them about it too.

Would something designed for carrying a baby work? A sling or similar?

Look here there are some lovely front carriers so pup can pop her/his head out to see the world http://www.shopwiki.co.uk/l/sling-front-pet-carrier

We had a papoose for Rosie our late Chihuahua when she got too old to keep up. We tried baby ones and human back packs but a proper one for dogs was much better for her and easier to manage too.

Thank you I feel as he is a gift from our late old man. I think it might be too early as we only lost the old man recently but sometimes fate just put a puppy in your hands. Jack would have loved Ash.

Great ideas - I think I will get one for the short distance but I want to be fussy and have a backpack where the pup can actually curl up and go to sleep if needed.

Thank you so much for the responses so far.

I am meeting him today so will take photos.

In my experience they usually want to pop a head out and look around rather than sleep.

Yes that was why a human back pack didn't work our late Rosie couldn't see out so she spent her time trying to claw her way out, with the proper doggie papoose she was comfy and just sat watching the world go by.

Plus have you seen some of the positions a dog goes to sleep in lol if a dog is tired it will sleep and i'm sure with the little bag looking one at the top of the link i posted there is room for him to tuck his head inside and getting cosy if needs be, it will be great for getting him socialised with people as everyone will want a stroke
