1 'weird' lump = 1 embarassing trip to the vets

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share what an idiot I feel with you all!

Took Colin to the vets this morning. Yesterday evening i felt a lump about the size of a marble on his left side. It wasn't bothering him but it bothered me. Safe to say panic set in!

10 am the next day, straight to the vets. Approximately 30 seconds and £17 later, im told ...

it is a FLOATING RIB

How silly do I feel ...but also relieved (so I can live with the embarassment!)

He's also 5kg, the little fatty

Well you shouldn't if it had been more sinister at least you had bought it straight to your vet's attention.

I am vaugely aware of the term 'floating rib' but don't think it's ever happened to anyone's dog on here (not that they've posted about anyway) so obviously it is not very common.

Glad that there is nothing wrong with Colin.

I have heard of floating rib, not quite sure what it actually entails though.

I have heard of it in humans but like everything we get I suppose some dogs are prone to it, I think it may happen if you have had a previous rib injury.

You were sensible to go to the vet.

Apparantly, a floating rib attaches to the spine but not the sternum. I have always noticed that Flynn seems to have an odd ribcage and on one side you can feel a bony bit sticking out that doesnt match the other side. I've often wondered why but it's never caused him bother so havent taken it further. Maybe he's got a floating rib....Lol!
