Kind of........ I am wary of Rotties around here simply because a lot of the owners are chav types who only have the dog as a status symbol. I once saw a guy practically dragging his rottie down the street and screaming at it quite loudly, I avoid having any contact with those types along my walks.

We had a conversation at a dinner on sunday... and staffies were mentioned, the first thing that was said was 'I don't like staffies', I asked why and the reply was 'they are horrible dogs'...... the person had never even met a staffie for god sake, someone else seemed to think there were good or dangerous staffies as well.

So I think certain breeds obviously do create irrational fear simply because of the reputation, but it is not something that causes me to fear any breed in particular.

I have to say I don't really like Jack Russell type dogs, every one I come across on walks seems to be snarling, yappy and aggressive towards my dog.

Toy Poodles and Chihuahuas..

The only dog I've ever been bitten by was a toy poodle... The most aggressive dog I've ever seen was a Chihuahua...

Not so much a fear as I have been working with dogs at a vets for years, more breeds that I'm wary of and don't trust - GSDs, I find them to be unpredictable and nervy. They will be friendly with you then just turn and have a go for no reason. People may wonder how I can say that whne I have rotts but I find with rotts if they don't like you they let you know straight away, which I dont find with shepherds

Also Pomeranians, I don't think I've ever met a friendly one!

Apologies to all GSD and Pom owners!

Interesting that you should say that.... as many people seem to be scared of GSD type dogs.

My girl is 8 to 9 months old and a GSD X breed..... crossed with what I don't know (a horse maybe), any many people are extremely wary of her when out on a walk, people cross the street , kids scream etc. - and she is always 100% under my control.

I think the thing with German shepherds is they can tend to be a one person dog, they do bond quite strongly with whoever they see as leader.......... I think this is why they can be a bit funny with strangers if one isn't very careful to socialise early on in life.

there isn't a one breed I wouldn't trust.. but there are plenty of stupid owners with dogs - who I then wouldn't trust.
You know the kind - that use their dog for status or fighting.
Those dogs I am wary of.

oh and as a jack owner, I can tell you it annoys me the people who don't train their jacks and allow them to run riot. Mind you, in the country park we first frequented, lots of different dogs ran riot.. by which I mean they did as they pleased, the owners either had no recall, or weren't bothered to recall.

So really, its owners, not dogs, I wouldn't trust

ANY dog if its in the wrong hands.

Yes any dog can bite, and some dogs are naturally more agressive than others but its the owners who should control that instinct. If they cant they shouldnt have the dog.

My parents owned a Cairn Terrier when I was growing up. Oooh he was nasty! He bit them both almost on a daily basis so I'd never get one. I do agree though that it's how they're raised and not the breed.

I spoke to one of our local vets the other week in my constant quest for a new puppy and asked his opinion on a good family dog breed he would recommend. At the time I was really looking at the English Springer but he said that he would steer clear of all spaniel breeds because of their biting issues!!!!Especially the cocker but he dosent trust any spaniel. He reckons the most 'bomb proof dog there is is the staffy and he couldnt recommend them enough!!!!

Im very suprised that a vet would say that about spaniel breeds. Usually there recommended as family dogs. Its a huge shame they said that

But saying that, staffys make great family dogs as well
