I'm going to guess it was staged. And that this dog was trained to "smile" on command (my dog smiles like that when you rub her belly), either the words he was using or some hand signal we can't see.

Getting back to a lighter note.....our Oldie does that ''grinning'' when you say ''who dunnit'' and also when we are out walking after she has rolled in something nasty she has done this from the day I rescued her
